Nebraskans for Peace is calling on all Nebraskans to stand up and send a message of thanks to Senator Hagel for his fearless and forceful opposition to the Bush administration's policies in the Mideast.
NOTE: All fields are required.
Nebraskans for Peace is building a network of people who care about where our country is going in Iraq and the Middle East. We are determined to send a message to Congress and the President that it's time to reverse the policies that are jeopardizing the safety of the world and America's energy future. We must instead pursue a United Nations-regulated peace in Iraq and the Middle East, respect the rights of the people of that region by ending the economic raid on their oil and gas reserves, and finally, start investing in our nation's own renewable energy resources.
Part of this effort involves supporting Senator Chuck Hagel for introducing the Senate Resolution calling on the president not to escalate the war in Iraq by sending additional troops. Sen. Hagel stands in a long line of Nebraskans that have resisted the powers-that-be to lay the foundations for peace in a time of international conflict: William Jennings Bryan, George Norris and Bob Kerrey.
Sen. Hagel is being publicly attacked for his courageous stance. Nebraska citizens like yourself are the key to ensuring that Senator Hagel is not singled out.
We are asking each of you to send a message to Sen. Hagel. And please pass this along to at least five of your friends.
Your efforts and those of hundreds of other people today will make a difference as to how the world will look in the next 25 years. It's that important.
We appreciate anything you can do to help. Thanks.

America is strongest when it is acting with the support of the world community and the United Nations in securing the peace. Securing the peace in the Middle East and creating a new energy policy are part of making America strong. Though America received support from almost the entire world community of nations after 9/11, we have lost most of that support through wrongheaded military ventures, bad energy policy and a blatant disregard for human rights. Our nation is now trapped in the middle of a civil war in Iraq and in an escalating conflict with the wider Islamic world of 1.2 billion people.
But America can still work to reduce violence in the Middle East and between the Islamic world and the West if:
The Senate and the House pass the bipartisan non-binding resolution submitted by Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska and his Senate colleague Ben Nelson. This resolution argues that escalating the number of troops in Iraq is not helpful. At present, the President is proposing adding 21,500 more U.S. troops to the over 130,000 that are already there.
The Hagel/Nelson resolution will pressure the Bush/Cheney Administration to follow the suggestions of the bipartisan Baker-Hamilton Iraq Study Group and seek to secure a political solution to the conflict by (1) withdrawing American troops gradually from the centers of the civil war to stabilize Iraq's borders, and (2) negotiating with all of the countries in the region to reduce the flow of arms and explosives into the region - and especially into Iraq. We would prefer that this work be done under United Nations supervision.
The United States should welcome into the peace process the organizations of countries and the individual countries in the region that have a stake in its peace and security - for example, the Arab League, Israel, Syria, and Iran, as well as NATO. We further ask that negotiations concerning Middle Eastern stability - including the stability of Palestine and Israel - be conducted under the auspices of the United Nations.
