Lantern floats in Japan are used to guide the souls of the dead to their rest; for many years in recent times they have been used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki to commemorate the people destroyed by the first atomic bombs. The purpose of the event in Lincoln is to remind us of what happened at Hiroshima and Nagasaki and to will that such events never again occur, even though we hear that in several areas of the world the nuclear option has not been taken off the table.

As Tehran tests new missiles, America believes only a show of force can deter President Ahmadinejad
The one thing that all sides agree on is that any strike by either Iran or Israel would trigger a catastrophic round of retaliation that would rock global oil markets, send the price of petrol soaring and wreck the progress of the US military effort in Iraq.

Fifty years ago, at the height of the Cold War, the USSR launched Sputnik, the first satellite to orbit the earth, bringing America to its knees in awe — then fear. Initially thrilling as a marvel of science, Sputnik was soon viewed by Americans as a weapon of mass destruction. SPUTNIK MANIA explores the rapid series of events that delivered the world’s super-powers to the brink of nuclear war, and the story of two ex-generals whose private agreement prevented it.
Senator Ben Nelson may vote on a new generation of nuclear bombs this week. Please hurry and call and/or write an Email message to Senator Ben Nelson to stop a new generation of nuclear bombs from being developed.
Please start by calling Senator Nelson’s office at 202-224-6551 and 402-391-3411. Identify yourself as a constituent from Nebraska. Tell the person who answers the phone that you are calling to ask the Senator to oppose all funding for the Reliable Replacement Warhead (RRW) program when it comes up in the Appropriations Committee. Ask what the Senator’s current thinking is on the issue. Feel free to use the points listed below to make the case or refer to the RRW fact sheet.
Secondly, cut and paste the following letter and send it to Senator Nelson at this address: senator@bennelson.senate.gov (Feel free to change this letter so they don’t all look exactly the same.) more…
